Product Description
Projector IEC62471-5 Testing
IEC 62471-5 specifies the requirements and measurements for the photobiological safety of projector equipment. EN62471 is the testing standard for the photobiological safety of lamps and lamp systems. Generally, when we assess the safety of a product, we test and determine it from a specific perspective, such as the low voltage directive safety testing we often mention in the past. The concept of photobiological safety is used to assess the damage to biological tissue (human eyes and skin) caused by certain light radiation conditions (including visible and invisible light).

How long does EN62471 certification take?
Generally, the EN62471 certification testing time for standard products is one week, but this time may vary depending on the complexity of the product.
IEC/EN62471 is the EU's testing standard for laser products (including LEDs).
I. Background of the Standard
IEC/EN60825 primarily measures the energy of a single wavelength of light.
IEC/EN62471 primarily measures a wide range of light and takes into account the time, angle, and sensitivity of the human eye and skin to light.
II. Applicable Products: All lamps and lamp systems except lasers. (Single-wavelength lasers are easier to test, while ordinary lamps can be broadband light sources due to the influence of the light source, diffuser, lens, auxiliary optical components, and other devices.)
III. Test Wavelength Range
Optical radiation with a wavelength range of 200nm to 3000nm
IV. Result Interpretation
1. Continuous Light: No Hazard; Category 1 Hazard (Low Hazard); Category 2 Hazard (Medium Hazard); Category 3 Hazard (High Hazard)
2. Pulsed Light: 1. Exceeding the radiation limit is classified as Category 3 Hazard; 2. Single-pulse light that does not exceed the radiation limit is classified as No Hazard; 3. Multi-pulse light that does not exceed the radiation limit is classified as Continuous Light.
Currently, some EN62471 reports on the market still use the EN60825 template: simply updating the standard to EN62471 without updating the actual content. Companies should exercise caution.
Currently, there are only a few laboratories in China that can perform testing for the IEC62471-5 standard for photobiological safety of projectors.
