Mobile Phone MTBF Testing
Mobile phone MTBF reliability testing primarily verifies product quality and reliability by simulating conditions that may occur during transportation and in the user environment. This testing identifies quality defects that may exist before mass production. Under specific, acceptable conditions, the product's lifespan and fatigue resistance are continuously tested to assess product quality and reliability, thereby improving and enhancing product quality and reducing market return rates.
MTBF testing is a metric used to measure the reliability of a mobile phone. Before mass production, all mobile phones must undergo MTBF testing to assess and improve version quality. MTBF testing reflects a product's time quality and its ability to maintain functionality within a specified timeframe. Specifically, it refers to the average operating time between two consecutive failures, also known as the mean time between failures. This testing method is only applicable to repairable products.
MTBF is also defined as the ratio of the cumulative operating time to the number of failures during a product's total operational life. To test the probability of a smart terminal experiencing critical failures such as freezes, reboots, screen freezes, and forced application closures during continuous operation, a test method typically involves repeatedly executing a specified test case in an automated manner over a period of time, recording the number of failures encountered during the test. The final MTBF test result can be calculated using the following formula: MTBF = (number of test devices x number of operating days x 24) / (number of fatal + severe issues).
MTBF isn't measured in actual operation; it's converted using a national standard testing algorithm. For example, the Lenovo Yangtian's 60,000-hour MTBF was calculated by testing 192 Lenovo Yangtian computers over a 40-day test cycle. The test products were subjected to a combination of environmental stresses, including voltage, temperature, and humidity, at a specific frequency. Based on the relationship between electronic product reliability and time characteristics, the laboratory results were converted using a standard data model. Similarly, the Tongfang Chaoyue E350's 100,000-hour MTBF was calculated using the results of 18 days of testing on 400 computers.
In reality, we don't need to focus on how MTBF is calculated; we just need to understand that choosing products with high MTBF values will increase our competitiveness. Of course, a higher MTBF doesn't necessarily mean better; higher reliability doesn't necessarily mean higher machine tool costs. Simply choose a product that's reasonably reliable based on your actual needs.
