MOTOROLA series modules
MOTOROLA MVME5500 VMEbus single-board computer
Processor: It adopts the PowerPC 7455/7457 processor with a main frequency up to 1GHz, equipped with 512KB on-chip L2 cache and 2MB L3 cache, as well as the AltiVec coprocessor for high-performance computing applications. It has powerful computing performance and can handle complex tasks.
Memory: Supports up to 1GB SDRAM, with 512MB of on-board SDRAM ECC memory. An additional 512MB of memory can be expanded through a memory relay card, which can meet the requirements of most complex applications.
Storage: Supports CF card expansion, featuring two sets of soldered flash memory, 32MB and 8MB respectively, with a total flash memory capacity of up to 40MB.
Interfaces: Rich in interfaces, including VME bus, dual 64-bit 33/66 MHZ PCI bus, PMC site, Gigabit Ethernet interface, 10/100BaseTX Ethernet interface, serial port, etc. Among them, each PCI bus has a PMC site that supports cards operating at 33 or 66MHz frequencies, and also supports 64-bit PCI expansion mezzanine connectors, allowing for the addition of up to four PMCS.
Operating temperature: The operating temperature range is from -40 °C to + 85°C, capable of adapting to harsh environments.
Operating system compatibility: Supports multiple real-time operating systems, such as VxWorks, Linux, Windows CE, etc., which can meet the software requirements of different application scenarios.
Serial port function
Hardware configuration: The MVME5500 has two asynchronous serial ports and two TL16C550C UArts controllers, which are compatible with 16550. Access is provided for the asynchronous serial port configured as EIA-574 DTE through two DB-9 connectors, and access is provided for the synchronous/synchronous serial port through two HD-26 connectors. It can also be configured separately as EIA-232, DCE or DTE by installing the SMART EC Serial interface module (SIM).
Communication rate: The maximum asynchronous baud rate can reach 38.4K bps (EIA-232), which can meet some scenarios where the requirement for data transmission rate is not extremely high but stable serial communication is needed.
Application scenarios
Industrial automation: It can be connected to programmable logic controllers (PLCS), sensors, actuators and other devices. Communicating with the PLC through the serial port can realize the monitoring and control of the industrial production process, receive the status information sent by the PLC, or send control instructions to the PLC. Connected to sensors such as temperature and pressure, it can collect environmental parameters of the industrial site in real time, providing data support for the control of the production process. It can also control actuators such as motor drivers to achieve precise motion control.
Aerospace field: It is used to connect various serial port devices on aircraft, such as attitude sensors, avionics equipment, etc. The sensor data is obtained through the serial port to monitor the attitude, altitude, speed and other information of the aircraft in real time, providing data for the flight control system to ensure flight safety and stability. It can also communicate with some small avionics equipment to achieve parameter setting and status monitoring of the equipment.
Medical imaging equipment: It can communicate with some auxiliary modules in medical imaging equipment, such as the module for setting the radiation emission parameters of X-ray machines, and send instructions through the serial port to set parameters such as radiation intensity and exposure time. Or it can be connected to the probe control module of the ultrasound imaging equipment to control parameters such as the scanning Angle and frequency of the probe, assisting in obtaining high-quality medical images.
Transportation industry: In rail transit, various monitoring devices on the train, such as wheel speed sensors and carriage environment monitoring sensors, can be connected. Data is collected through serial ports to monitor the train's operating status and the environmental parameters inside the carriage in real time. It can also be used in intelligent transportation equipment for highway traffic, such as communicating with traffic signal light controllers, adjusting the duration of signal lights based on traffic flow data, and optimizing traffic flow.
Test and measurement equipment: It can be connected to various test instruments as a control core, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc. Control the instrument to perform measurement operations by sending instructions through the serial port, read the measurement data, and analyze and process the data to achieve an automated testing process, improving the testing efficiency and accuracy.
