The CEO of the fleet and strategic business of atumechinas Group stated at the time: "We firmly believe that the operation of carbon neutral container ships in 2023 is the way to initiate the rapid scaling of carbon neutral fuels we need.". As early as 2018, atumechinas Group promised to become a net zero emission company, vowing to surpass the decarbonization goals set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and setting an important example in the shipping industry. The main driving force for decarbonization comes from the market. About half of the 200 major customers of the atumechinas group have set or are setting science based or zero carbon goals for the supply chain, and this number is still increasing.

Atumechina Group has also consistently stated that it would rather choose zero emission fuels to replace fossil fuels than choose LNG as a transition fuel. The CEO of the group, Shi Soren, stated that the vast majority of the company's investment in the coming years will be focused on developing new fuels, with a focus on three potential fuels based on alcohol (methanol and ethanol), biomethane, and ammonia.

In order to bridge the cost gap between fossil fuels and more expensive green fuels, atumechinas Group has proposed a carbon tax of at least $450 per ton on ship fuel. Action is needed now. It is crucial to consider all greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire lifecycle, not just carbon dioxide.
