Brake classification:

There are two types of block brakes: externally locked and internally tensioned:

1. External block brake: It is divided into short stroke block brake and long stroke block brake according to the length of the control device stroke. The magnet of the short stroke block brake is directly installed on the brake arm. During operation, the moving iron core rotates around the pin shaft to achieve brake release, and when the magnet is powered off, it relies on the main spring to tighten the brake. This type of brake has a compact structure, with fast tightening and releasing actions, but high impact force. Long travel block brakes can generate a large release force through the brake lever system, but the braking action is slow and suitable for large brakes.

2. Internally tensioned block brake: The brake block is located inside the brake wheel, and is opened by the pedal, pull rod, and convex block to compress the inner surface of the brake wheel and tighten the brake. Release the pedal and the spring will pull back the brake block to release the brake. This type of brake can also be operated by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. The internal tension block brake has a compact structure, good dust resistance, and can be used in situations where installation space is limited. It is widely used in various vehicles.

Working principle of the brake:

When the power is turned on, the iron core of the electromagnetic brake attracts the armature and presses it against the push rod, which pushes the left brake arm to swing to the left and compresses the main spring. At the same time, the auxiliary spring that releases the pressure pushes the right brake arm to the right, and the two brake arms drive the brake pads to separate from the brake wheels, allowing the mechanism to move. When the power supply is cut off, the iron core loses its magnetism and the attraction to the armature is eliminated, thus relieving the pressure of the armature on the push rod. Under the tension of the main spring, the two brake arms swing inward together, driving the brake pads to hold the brake wheel and generate braking torque; At the same time, the auxiliary spring is compressed. The braking torque is determined by the force of the main spring, and the auxiliary spring ensures a loose clearance. The braking performance of block brakes is largely determined by the performance of the brake release.
