There are two types of block brakes: external and internal:

(1) External block brake: It is divided into short-stroke block brake and long-stroke block brake according to the length of travel of the operating device. The magnet of the short-stroke block brake is directly mounted on the brake arm. When working, the dynamic iron core rotates around the pin to loosen the brake; when the magnet is de-energised, the main spring is used to tighten the brake. This type of brake has a compact structure, fast tightening and loosening action, but with a large impact force. Long stroke block brake can produce large loosening force through the brake lever system, but the braking action is slow, suitable for large brakes.

②Internal Tension Block Brake: The brake block is located inside the brake wheel, and the pedal, lever and cam make the brake block open, pressing the inner surface of the brake wheel to tighten the brake, and releasing the pedal, the spring pulls back the brake block to loosen the brake. This type of brake can also be operated by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. Internal tensioning block brakes are compact, dustproof, and can be used in applications where installation space is restricted, and are widely used on a variety of vehicles. This standard applies to external double block brakes.
