German technical background  VOK?-R 605 rheological agent

VOK?-R 605 liquid rheology additive for enhanced rheological efficiency of pyrogenic silica in plastic applications such as vinyl esters, epoxy resins, unsaturated polyester resins and gel coats. It makes pyrogenic silica easier to add, prevents delamination, and increases or stabilizes thixotropic behavior.

Product features and benefits

VOK?-R 605 is used for three-dimensional network structures containing fusperous silica or organic layered silicates to improve thixotropy. As a result, even low silica or layered silicate dosages can achieve sufficiently high sagging resistance and improved leveling and deaeration.

A small amount of VOK?-R 605 (5% based on silica) stabilizes silica in laminate resins and prevents delamination of the resin during storage.

In vinyl ester resins, VOK?-R 605 activates hydrophilic silica.

The additive is used in a variety of resins, including polyether polyols, to prevent filler settling during storage.

In polyether polyols VOK?-R 605 g is used to stabilize molecular sieves such as zeolite.

Recommended dosage

The dosage of additives (form of purchase) is based on:

Pyrogenic silica in vinyl ester resin: 20-50%

Pyrogenic silica in other resins: 10-30%

organic layered silicates (organic clays); 5-20%

Inorganic filler: 0.5-2%

Addition method and processing guidance

Under continuous stirring conditions, the additive should be added to the resin before silica, layered silicate or filler is added. This additive can also be added later.

VOK?-R 605 is a thixotropic synergist for polyurethanes and acrylates that exhibits thixotropy through the use of pyrogenic silica or organic layered silicates (organoclays). Enhances hydrogen bonds of silica and layered silicates, resulting in increased thixotropy. Therefore, a low amount of silica or layered silicate can also obtain sufficiently high flow resistance and improve leveling and deaeration.

Recommended dosage

10-30% additive dosage (purchased form) is based on pyrogenic silica or organic layered silicates.
