Safflower Seed Extract
Botanical Source : Carthamus
Family : Asteraceae
Safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is a highly branched, herbaceous, thistle-like annual plant. It is commercially cultivated for vegetable oil extracted from the seeds. Plants are 30 to 150 cm (12 to 59 in) tall with globular flower heads havingyellow, orange, or red flowers. Each branch will usually have from one to five flower heads containing 15 to 20 seeds per head. These seeds are ideal for birds and require arid climatic condition with seasonal rainfall. As a type of birdseed, safflower seeds are somewhat smaller than black oil sunflower seeds.
Safflower seed extracts are available in two forms:-
- Safflower Extract powder water soluble 2%
- Safflower Oil

Color shade:- Sunset yellow
Application :
- Useful as a medicinal agent.
- Useful in preparation of yellow and red dyes.
- Used as a coloring and flavoring agent in food preparation.
Safflower Oil
There are two different types of safflower that produce different kinds of oil :
- Monounsaturated fatty acid (oleic acid)
- Polyunsaturated fatty acid (linoleic acid).

Color shade:- Pale yellow
Consistency:- Thick liquid
Application and uses :
- Linoleic safflower oil has also been shown to increase adiponectin, a protein that helps regulate blood glucose levels and fatty-acid breakdown, thus used in different Ayurvedic preparation.
- It is also used to treat fever, tumors, coughs, breathing problems, clotting conditions, pain, heart disease, chest pain, and traumatic injuries
- In foods, safflower seed oil is used as a cooking oil.
- Safflower contains chemicals that may thin the blood to prevent clots, widen blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and stimulate the heart.
