Product Description
UV Grade Glass Meniscus Cylindrical Lens, Optical Meniscus Cylindrical Lenses
Cylindrical lens is used to correct astigmatism in the eye, or stretch a point of light into a line in rangefinders.
They are available in either plano concave or plano convex configurations. Plano Concave Cylindrical lenses
have a negative focal length and are used for image reduction or to spread light. Plano Convex Cylindrical le
nses have a positive focal length, which makes them as the ideal component for collecting and focusing
light for many imaging applications.
Convex concave (meniscus) lenses can be either positive or negative, depending on the relative curvatures of
the two surfaces. A negative meniscus lens has a steeper concave surface and will be thinner at the center
than at the periphery. Conversely, a positive meniscus lens has a steeper convex surface and will be thicker
at the center than at the periphery. An ideal thin lens with two surfaces of equal curvature would have zero
optical power, meaning that it would neither converge nor diverge light.
