GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress Safety System) is a system developed by the IMO
(International Maritime Organization) to promote the safety of life of sea.
When SAR (Search And Rescue) craft is informed of approximate position of unit in distress by either communication or EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon), SART (Search And Rescue Radar Transponder) is employed as a radio location device for SAR craft to make rescue time short.
The model TBR-700A is a SART conforming to the International standards for the GMDSS and has obtained its type approval by Japanese agencies and MED in charge.
It is a handy radar transponder in the 9GHz radar band with transmits reply signals synchronizing to radar hits (interrogation) from radar(s) on SAR craft. The reply, a TBR-700A SART signal, when received by the TBR-700A SART on the radar scope of the SAR craft.
Thus, a TBR-700A SART helps to make SAR operation very efficient, especially, at night, in bad weather or in the poor visibility.
