The constructionof PJ18:

The plunger ismade of high carbon steel, plated with gold to eliminate surface oxides and tolower electrical resistance.

Various probe tipstyles are adopted to suit any test requirement according to differentapplications.

Spring isconstructed of stainless steel or music wire, plated with gold which preventscorrosion.

The barrel is madeof phosphor bronze, plated with gold. The interior of the barrel makes goodelectrical contact with the plunger and spring whereas the exterior of thebarrel makes good electrical contact with the receptacle.

The receptacle ismade of phosphor bronze plated with gold. Phosphor bronze has the features ofexcellent electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, wear resistance andfatigue resistance.

HOW TO eliminatecontact problems caused by dirty probes

PreventiveMaintenance:  

Environment –reduce airborne contamination such as dust, clothing fibers or particles froman adjacent wave-solder machine 

PCB –keep printedcircuit boards as clean as possible

Dust Covers – putdust covers over idle fixtures

Air Filters–fixing an air filter in the release port 

ProbeCleaning: 

Gently brushingthe probe tips with a small brush with nylon or natural fiber bristles
