1.What is Polyethylene (PE)? 

1)Polyethylene plastic sheet (PE):

Polyethylene plastic sheet (abbreviated PE) or polythene (IUPAC name polyethene or poly(methylene)) is the most common plastic. The annual global production is approximately 80 million tonnes. Its primary use is in packaging (plastic bag, plastic films, geomembranes, containers including bottles, etc.). Many kinds of polyethylene are known, with most having the chemical formula (C2H4)nH2. Thus PE is usually a mixture of similar organic compounds that differ in terms of the value of n.

2)High-density polyethylene (HDPE)plastic sheet

High-density polyethylene plastic sheet(HDPE) or polyethylene high-density (PEHD) is a polyethylene thermoplastic made from petroleum.HDPE is defined by a density of greater or equal to 0.941 g/cm3.

HDPE has a low degree of branching and thus low intermolecular forces and tensile strength. HDPE can be produced by chromium/silica catalysts, Ziegler-Natta catalysts or metallocene catalysts.

3)Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE)

UHMWPE is polyethylene with a molecular weight numbering in the millions, usually between 3.1 and 5.67 million. The high molecular weight makes it a very tough material, but results in less efficient packing of the chains into the crystal structure as evidenced by densities of less than high density polyethylene (for example, 0.930–0.935 g/cm3).

UHMWPE can be made through any catalyst technology, although Ziegler catalysts are most common. Because of its outstanding toughness and its cut, wear and excellent chemical resistance,

UHMW-PE sheet is a strong wear resistant material with many applications including bunker liners. It is easy to install. The lining is designed to protect the bunkers, extending the working life significantly. 

 Ultra-high Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) sheet is a linear polyethylene with a much higher molecular weight than standard PE, which offers outstanding performance as below:

1)abrasion resistance:

   4 times higher than Nylon66 and PTFE, 6 times than stainless steel, the best of the plastic

2)superior impact resistance:

   2 times than Polycarbonate,5 times than ABS and can keep toughness very well even under liquid-nitrogen   temperature (-196℃)

3)self-lubricating property:

   same as PTFE,friction coefficient is 0.07-0.11, 1/3-1/4 of steel.

4)impact energy absorption value is the highest in plastic and noise reduction is best.

5)excellent mechanical characteristics

  anti-corrosive medium and organic medium.

6)non-sticking property: close to PTFE.

7)Non-poisonous property

   widely used in food and medicine industry..

8)Low density

   the smallest in plastic, 56% lower than PTFE,22% lower than Polycarbonate; 1/8 of steel etc.
