Chemical and physical properties of cork

Lightweight
 The weight is only 0.16 g per cubic centimeter. Inside the cells mostly filling with one gas which is similar to the air.

Compressibility
 Cork is compressed, it is not easy to break. It also can be compressed to about half the width, not lose elasticity. 

Elastic memory
   The similar floater cork cells also showed the so-called elastic memory. By compression, they are constantly trying to return to its original size, and keep the quality of a material firming wrinkle free. Due to its flexible, therefore can meet certain temperature and pressure changes at the same time, not to affect the integrity of the quality of grain.

Impermeability
   The cell walls contain fat and waxy, cork can almost completely waterproof and gas. Because it has moisture-proof performance, over the years still not corrupt decayed. Now we found that sealed cork allows a small amount of oxygen into the bottle, the brewing of wine is good, this has benefits to the wine brewing.

Insulation 
   Cork is a very good insulator, also can be widely used for heat insulation, sound insulation and vibration control.

Antiflaming
   Cork has natural fire retardant properties: burn without fire, not discharge of poisonous gas in the combustion process.

   Cork wear-resisting performance is very good, and has the high friction coefficient. Due to its honeycomb structure, its impact resistance and frictional resistance is better than other hard surface.
