How Is Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Made?

• Manufacturing Duplex 2507 stainless steel follows procedures similar to those of other high-alloy steels. The process begins in an electric arc furnace where scrap steel is melted and alloy elements are introduced. The molten steel is then transferred to an AOD (argon oxygen decarburization) converter. During this critical phase, processes such as decarburization, sulfur refinement, and the removal of dissolved gases take place.

• In the AOD process, nitrogen is typically added to the steel. The molten steel then moves to a ladle furnace for inclusion adjustment.

• Following these initial steps, the steel is cast into either solitary ingots or continuously produced blooms. These solidified forms are further processed through reheating and forging or rolling to achieve the required thickness. To ensure a uniform internal structure, the material undergoes solution annealing, followed by rapid water quenching.

• Duplex 2507 pipe materials can be shaped using either hot or cold forming techniques. For hot forming, temperatures should range between 1024 °C and 1232 °C.
