Stainless Steel Type 301 is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that is available in the annealed and cold worked conditions. In the annealed condition, Type 301 offers the highest level of stretch formability of any stainless steel and in the heavily cold worked condition offers the highest strength level of any 300 series stainless steel. Type 301 is non-magnetic in the annealed condition but becomes magnetic as a result of cold working.

Stainless steel grade 301 is usually supplied in the form of strips and wires, with a tensile strength of up to 1800 Mpa, to produce tempers ranging from 1/16 Hard to Full Hard. By subjecting grade 301 to controlled analysis it is capable of retaining sufficient ductility even in ? hard conditions. This form of grade 301 may be used in aircraft, rail car components and architectural structures. Tempers of this grade, ranging from ? to full hard, may be used in applications requiring high wear resistance and spring features with simple form designs.

Surgical instruments such as surgical forceps, wrenches, and wire guides require high corrosion resistance and reliability, and 301 stainless steel can meet these requirements. 

Orthopedic and dental surgical instruments, such as fixing plates and screws, require good biocompatibility and durability. 

Connecting parts of medical devices, such as bolts and nuts, require high strength and corrosion resistance. 

In addition, 301 stainless steel also has good processing performance, is easy to process and form, can be cold-processed and hot-processed, and has good plasticity and weldability. 

These characteristics give 301 stainless steel a significant advantage in medical device manufacturing.
