Air-cooled chillers can be used in small systems. Most large units are water-cooled. In terms of the initial investment of the main unit, the water-cooled one is a bit less than the air-cooled one. However, when adding components such as cooling towers and electronic water treatment devices in the machine room, the cost savings are not significant. Moreover, in terms of long-term operation, the refrigeration efficiency of water-cooled units will relatively decline, while the air-cooled ones will not.
The air-cooled chiller adopts air cooling method, eliminating the cooling tower, cooling water pump and piping system required by the cooling water system. This avoids condenser scaling and water pipe blockage in areas with poor water quality, and also saves water resources. Among chiller air-conditioning equipment products, it is the most economical and simple model for maintenance.
The one-time investment of air-cooled chillers is slightly higher than that of water-cooled chillers, but the annual operating cost is lower than that of water-cooled chillers. The construction cost of the machine room is the lowest among various air-conditioning cold and heat source systems, and the maintenance cost is about half of that of water-cooled units or boilers.
The noise and volume of air-cooled chillers are larger than those of water-cooled ones, and they can only be installed outdoors. Most water-cooled units are installed in basements.
Product Features of Air-cooled Chillers:
1. The unit's compressor uses scroll hermetic compressors and electrical control components, and is equipped with condensers and evaporators made of high-efficiency heat-exchanging copper tubes;

4. The whole machine has a box-shaped structure, with beautiful appearance and compact structure. The operating condition of the unit can be checked at any time. The unit can come with a water tank and a circulating pump according to the cooling capacity. There is no need for a cooling tower and a cooling water pump, and the installation and maintenance are simple and convenient;

Differences between Air-cooled and Water-cooledIndustrial chillers are divided into water-cooled industrial chillers and air-cooled industrial chillers. The main difference between them lies in the condensers. The condenser of the water-cooled chiller mainly dissipates heat through circulating cooling water. Therefore, the condenser of the water-cooled chiller is usually also called a water cannon. Different from the water-cooled type, the air-cooled industrial chiller uses a fan for heat dissipation. It usually adopts a finned condenser. The fins actually refer to aluminum sheets, that is, aluminum sheets are externally installed on the parts that need heat exchange to achieve efficient heat dissipation, and then the hot air is extracted through... So when the workshop temperature is relatively high, besides being affected itself (too high condenser temperature will directly lead to high-pressure alarm of the industrial chiller and a decline in refrigeration capacity), the air-cooled chiller will also have a direct impact on the workshop temperature. The advantages of the water-cooled chiller are obvious. The water-cooled industrial chiller needs a cooling tower to circulate cooling water for cooling. Therefore, to use a water-cooled chiller, it is necessary to install a cooling tower, a cooling water circulation pump, and pipelines, which is rather cumbersome. Compared with the air-cooled industrial chiller, its convenience of movement is dwarfed. However, in most cases, factories already have a cooling water circulation system equipped.
Chuanbenster ChillerRefrigeration Principle
Air-cooled and water-cooled chillers are used for outdoor installation and operation. For air-cooled chillers, air is mechanically circulated directly over the machine's condenser coils, directly expelling heat to the ambient air for cooling. Water-cooled chillers are similar, except that they implement a water mist on the condenser coils to assist in condenser cooling, making the water-cooled chiller more efficient than traditional air-cooling. Usually, no remote cooling tower is required for these types of packaged air-cooled or water-cooled chillers.
Refrigeration principle of water-cooled indirect cooling in the electroplating industry:
The water in the cooling tower sump is delivered by a water pump to the condenser of the chiller to cool the condenser. When it flows back into the cooling tower and sprays down, the water is cooled by the fan on top of the cooling tower and then flows back into the cooling tower sump. This cycle repeats. While the condenser dissipates heat, the refrigerant inside liquefies and then flows into the evaporator in the water tank for evaporation. When evaporating, it absorbs heat, thus cooling the water in the water tank. The cooled water is delivered by a water pump to a heat exchanger (separated in the middle, with water on one side and sulfuric acid on the other side). Then, through the process of heat transfer, the sulfuric acid is cooled. This is such a cycle process. The advantage of this product lies in its convenient installation, relatively longer service life compared to direct freezing, and the chiller is not easily corroded by acids and alkalis.
Refrigeration principle of water-cooled direct cooling:
The water in the cooling tower sump is delivered by a water pump to the condenser of the chiller to cool the condenser. When it flows back into the cooling tower and sprays down, the water is cooled by the fan on top of the cooling tower and then flows back into the cooling tower sump. This cycle repeats. While the condenser dissipates heat, the refrigerant inside liquefies and then flows into the evaporator for evaporation. When evaporating, it absorbs heat, thus cooling the sulfuric acid (liquid) in the evaporator. The cooled sulfuric acid is delivered by a conveyor to Electroplating (Oxidation) tank. This is such a cycle process.
The direct freezing and indirect freezing of chillers have the same usage effect. However, it is obvious that the direct-freezing chiller is not as safe as the indirect-freezing chiller, and the former equipment is more prone to corrosion and has a relatively shorter service life. The direct-freezing equipment has a slight advantage, but when comparing the service life of the two, the indirect-freezing chiller is longer than the direct-cooling chiller. From this, the value of the indirect-freezing chiller can be calculated. This is also one of the development trends of energy-saving chillers.
