Softness Tester for Paper

RRD-01 Softness tester is used for the determination of the stiffness of fabrics by measuring the force required to push a specimen into a slot. It’s mainly used in tissue, non-woven, tobacco sheets, fabrics etc. to evaluate the physical properties of end products or semifinished products.

A piece of sample rests on a slot, i.e. two flat plate supports separated by a fixed distance. A force is applied to the sample into the slot (about 8mm deep) by a penetrating blade, or called a probe, which is attached to the tester driving mechanism. The maximum force needed to push the fabric through the support is measured as resistance to bending of the sample. This force is regarded as softness.
