Introduction:
Carbon steels are a category of steels with 0.12 to 2% carbon content. AISI 1045 is a medium carbon steel designed to be able to function in areas requiring greater strength and hardness. This steel possesses excellent size accuracy, concentricity, and straightness which together enable to minimize wear in high speed applications. AISI 1045 can be formed into turned, ground and polished bars that can be machined unsymmetrically with limited distortion.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment:

AISI 1045 carbon steel can be heat treated using flame and induction hardening.

Forging:
AISI 1045 carbon steel can be hammer forged.

Applications:
The following are the application areas of AISI 1045 carbon steel:

1. Bolts 2. Studs 3. Gears 4. Axles 5. Shafts 6. Machine parts.

C45 is a medium carbon steel grade offering reasonable tensile strength. Supplied in the cold drawn or hot rolled condition, tensile properties can vary but are approximately between 500-800 N/mm2. This grade can be flame or induction hardened to produce a good surface hardness with moderate wear resistance. C45 is widely used for components that require better properties than mild steel but does not justify the costs of an alloy steel. Available from stock in bar, C45 can be cut to your requirements. We also offer flame cut plates cut to your required sizes and normalised. C45 flame cut plates can be supplied surface ground or precision ground.
