Working Principle

The molecular functional group of most substances can absorb infrared light. We can take advantage of the absorption and conversion of the spectral energy for qualitative analysis and quantitative calculation of the internal components.

This infrared oil content analyzer is based on this principle and adopts infrared spectrophotometry. By spectral scanning of the sample, it can display and print the spectra of the sample and the position as well as the wave number of the absorption peak. All the oil content in the water can be quickly and accurately tested out. It’s applied to the measurement of the petroleum, animal and vegetable oils content in the surface water, groundwater, sewage and industrial waste water etc.

When the light of a certain wavelength goes through the test solution, its luminous energy will be absorbed. The intensity of the energy’s being absorption is proportional to the density of the solution and complies to the following Beer’s Law:

                                              A= log (1/T)=log(I0 / I)

The formula of the density of petroleum substance is as follow(C: density of oil content; A2930/A2960/A3030: absorbance at different wavelengths; X/Y/Z/F: correction coefficient):

                                C=X×A2930+Y×A2960+Z×(A3030-A2930/F)
