Summary:
The Expert 2 C+ uses the technique laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), which has many similarities to spark OES. When a pulse of laser light is focused and projected onto the surface of the test sample, the generated excited plasma emits characteristic light radiation with a specific wavelength. LIBS uses sensitive spectrometer analysis to get the types and corresponding contents of elements in the material. LIBS technology does not require sampling and sample preparation, and its destructiveness on the sample surface is negligible. Due to the technical difficulty, only a few companies in the world can produce carbon measuring portable LIBS equipment.

It can effectively judge carbon steel, low alloy steel, stainless steel and other Metal brands, element content analysis, and distinguish materials that use carbon as the distinguishing element.

High-purity Argon and Purge
Argon purge is vital for quantitative analysis with LIBS Analyzer and Optical Emission Spectrometer, and it is also very important for carbon. for carbon. So, the technique argon is a key component for measuring carbon accurately. The laser beam is small in diameter, thus a very small purge volume is needed for the argon purge. The Expert 2 C+ use about 1000 times less argon than a spark OES. So, this is a cost-saving option.
High Laser Pulse Energy and Frequency
The high energy and high rep rate laser rapidly burns off surface contamination in order to get a good analysis. A good grind and pre-burn is as critical for LIBS analysis as it is for spark Optical Emission Spectrometer (OES).
Laser Raster
Rastering is a must for accurate carbon tests with LIBS. The laser is typically 100 um diameter beam and even the best sample prep may not completely remove surface contamination on this distance scale. The Expert 2 C+ moves the laser to different spot, the carbon algorithm then examines the resulting data from each location.
