Description:This test method covers the determination of indentation hardness of aluminum alloys with a Webster hardness gage, Model B. The Webster hardness gauge, Model B, is a useful hardness measurement tool of material in the range from 1100 to 7075 - T6 in 20 graduations on the Webster dial indicator representing a range in Rockwell hardness about 25 HRE to 110 HRE. This hardness gauge is calibrated by standard test block of 6063. The hardness marked on the standard block is checked and measured by the measuring organization. Below shows the hardness conversion between the Webster dial reading and Rockwell scale. Applications: 1) For segregating materials in stock 2) For differentiating between soft or work-hardened material 3) For identifying parts made from improper or substandard alloys 4) Checking for proper heat-treatment response and for identifying heat-treated from non-heat-treated parts 5) Can be used on assemblies which cannot be brought to the laboratory 6) Useful in conjunction with stationary laboratory hardness testers 7) Gives a rapid 100% check on parts which would consume many man-hours with slower operating test equipment
