| Packing rings are mostly used for shaft sealing on water turbines, steam turbines, compressors and fans. Each Carbon packing rings consists of certain number of segments which are butt-jointed to each other mount around the shaft and are held in place by garter springs. Three or four carbon rings are usually used in each gland. Carbon packing rings restrict the passage of steam along the shaft in much the same manner as labyrinth packing strips. | |||||||||
