These traditional tools have been used for eons in thestone industry and are still among the most cost-effective tools for splittingstone. Also called Wedge and Feathers. These tools are the oldest and still oneof the best ways to split stone. Small Wedge and shims in 5/8′and 3/4′sizes aregood for stone yards or stone masons who want to reduce their rocks to workablesizes 1′，1-1/4′，1-3/8′ are for splitting large rocks. 1. Functions   

Wedge and shims is akind of manual tools that uses manpower to impact the metal wedge into holes onstone, thereby split stone. It is mainly used in splitting cracked stone andarch stone which by utilizing a wedge set can be separated into smaller orstandard stone blocks. It can also trim relative large and irregular stoneblocks.

2. Characteristics
  1.) Mainly rely on manpower, therefore its labor intensive.

Suitable forexposed ore, cranny-up growth efflorescence ore belt, particularly fornaturally formed multi-free surfaces ores, and arch stones with one or twosurfaces connected with original rock. Hence, wedge is a very effective andlabor-saving tool, especially for mines applying small size of quarrying stoneblocks.

  3.) Suitablefor mining where lack of power, water supply.
  4.) Suitable for quarrying layered ores which are either horizontalor gently inclined, have layer depth around 1.5m.
  5.) Can apply desegregation and separation of large stone blocksquarried through other methods.
  6.) It is easy to handle with and maintains its value in mines ofwhich have better rock fracturing performance and low mechanical level.However, the workload of leveling stone blocks is high which affect the finishrate.

3. Operating

Generally speaking, 3sets of wedge and shim are required for per foot of length of stone. The depthof drilled hole depends on the length of wedge.
