Self aligning ball bearings are constructed with the inner ring and ball assembly contained within an outer ring that has a spherical Self aligning ball bearing has two rows of balls. There is a common spherical raceway whose center of curvature accords with the bearing center. Even through the inner race, the steel balls and the holder incline relative to the outer race, the bearing can rotate. So the bearing is self-aligning, and will not be affected by shaft disalignment relative to the bearing box. The self-aligning ball bearing is mainly subject to radial load. It can also be subject to a minimum of axial load, but it usually can not be subject to pure axial load. This construction allows the bearing to tolerate a small angular misalignment resulting from deflection or improper mounting.

It is particularly suitable for applications where considerable shaft deflections or misalignment are to be expected. Additionally, the self-aligning ball bearing has the lowest friction of all rolling bearings, which enables it to run cooler even at high speeds.The self-aligning ball bearing is applicable for occasions with sizable shaft flexion or shaft disalignment, such as the transmission shaft of precision meter, quiet motor, car, motorcycle, woodworker and textile machinery. It can also be applied on mining machine, electromechanical device, plastics machinery, office device, medical appliance, body-building and sports goods, and common machine etc. It is one of the bearings most widely used in machinery industry.

 Introduction

Selfaligning ball bearing is the bearing equipped with spherical ball between two groove of the inner ring and spherical raceways of outer ring. Curvature center of outer ring raceway match the bearing center. So the bearing has the same center adjusting function with self aligning ball bearing. When bend appeared on the shaft and shell, it can automatically adjust without increase the burden bearing. Self-aligning roller bearing can bear radial load and axial load in two directions. Radial load capacity is big and it can be applied to the situation of heavy and shock load. When inner diameter of bearing is tapered bore, it can be directly installed or installed in the cylinder axis by the sleeve,remove tube. The cage is stamping steel cage,polyamide forming cage and copper alloy machined cage.

Selfaligning ball bearing has two structures and they are cylindrical bore and tapered bore The material of cage is steel,synthetic resin and so on. Its characteristics are the outer ring spherical raceway and selfaligning capability that can make the error caused by the nonconcentricity and deflection. But the inner and outer ring relative inclination is not exceed 3 degree.

This bearing can bear larger radial load. It also can withstand the axial load at the same time. The outer ring raceway of this bearing is spherical, so it possess self-aligning capability. When it bend or tilt given an axial force and the relative tilt between inner center line and outer center line is not exceed 1-2.5 degree, the bearing is still work. 

The inner bore of self-aligning ball bearing is cylindrical bore and tapered bore. The taper of tapered bore is 1:12 or 1:30. In order to strengthen the lubrication of bearing, the bearing processed the annular oil groove and three oil holes on the outer ring.

5. What is the difference between using a shield or a seal as a ball bearing closure?

Shields or seals are often installed to retain lubricant and to prevent contamination from entering the bearing. While a shield contacts the outer ring and does not come in contact with the inner ring, the seal generally comes in contact with both the inner and outer rings. Torque or drag is lower with a shield than with a seal. Alternately, the seal provides a higher degree of protection from contamination. Shields and seals are available in a variety of materials and configurations.
