 Modified atmosphere bags for date fruits and khalal 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1- What atmosphere is required for khalal (or date) preservation( inside cold store)?

00~0,50 C

2- Any special condition required outside cold store?

To be stored with air circulation.

3- What should be the temperature range inside cold store for keeping MAP bags?

To be stored in 00-0,50 C

4- Does air circulation inside cold store needed or not?

Storage should be let air-flow spaces.

5- How much space inside the cold store should be kept free?

Sufficiant as should permit to air circulation.

6- How much humidity should be maintained in cold store?

~70%~75%

7- How often the store can be visited to check preserved KHALAL (or date) ?

Should be observed every 3(three) days after the first ten(10) days.

8- To check the fruit condition in MAP bag, can we open them periodically?

8.1. The method is: You need to add 20 bags in to the party for control.

8.2. Open a single bag and control the situation of the fruits every 3~5 days.

8-3. Do not open the main bags even during the shipping.

8-4. Open the bags when would put up for sale or you need to want to maket hem grow (we call it to singe).

9- We want to preserve date fruit at its KHALAL stage and want to stop its conversion to the next stage which is called RUTAB. If the fruit(KHALAL) is found converting to Rutab stage , then what measures should be done?

The fruits must be singed and put up for sale immadiately when you notice that they become rutab.

10- How the MAP bags should be closed from the top.

Either these should be sealed( air tight) or simple knots will be sufficient?

The bags should be closed tightly with a knot or a rubber band as airtight.

11- Any special precautions?

11-1. Cold-chain should be kept seriously and never let it break.

11-2. Packing should be made in the cold (cooling) room.

11-3. Employeers shoul be working in the cold room.

12- Any additional gas like carbon dioxide or nitrogen etc. to be added to the MAP bags for longer and better preservation?

Definitely no other gas required.

13- We preserved khalal in ordinary MAP bags at 2 -4 degree centigrade with air circulation.

After one week, the date fruit(KHALAL) started turning to its next stage,the RUTAB.

Do you think we should try to preserve KHALAL in ordinary MAP bags?

2~4C is not sufficient. 00-0,50 C is ok.

The ordinary MAP bags are maybe ok for cherries, pomegranate and some others.

But our MAP/Humidity Control Bags are developed especially for date fruits family.

14- Can we use the bags more than once?

No.

The bags are disposable due to their chemical structure.

The most important points are:

1. Choose the healty fruits to keep.

2. Apply the process under quality workmanship.

3. Keep the bag open during the cooling.

4. Take care the bags against laceration.

5. Check the cold air temperature so often.

6. Keep the cold chain.
