AFRICAN BLACKSOAP (ALATA SAMINAA)

 

African Blacksoap or Alata Saminaa is a truly natural, gentle and environmentally friendly product, with efficient hygiene and skincare properties, well recognized in the traditional African household for centuries.

 

Traditionally, African Blacksoap is not scented, and the block can be cut into individual sizes and used right away. Some people enjoy chopping it, melting it and adding their favorite fragrances and herbs then pour into moulds to make bars.

 

There are no chemicals, preservatives, fragrances or color enhances in the traditional Pure African Blacksoap. The lye that is used in the saponification process is made from the ash of dried banana/plantain bark or dried cocoa pods or dried Agow tree bark. Some add Sheabutter or Cocoa butter to the basic recipe when required.

Modern technology has made it possible to produce a wide variety of herbal   bar soaps (including transparent soaps) with the traditional blacksoap, as the base. These may contain sheabutter, cocoa butter, calendula, cocoa pod, olive oil, honey, neem oil and essential oils, etc. These modified traditional blacksoap still maintain their healing and skincare qualities, which in most cases have become more enhanced.
