Perennial herb. Rhizome stout, cross walk. Stems erect, 1-2 meters tall, stout, hollow, with obvious vertical edges, with small protrusions, hairless, red or purple spots scattered. Leaves broadly ovate or ovate-elliptic, 5-12 cm long, 4-9 cm wide, almost leathery, apex acuminate, base broadly cuneate, truncate or nearly round, margin entire, sparsely small protrusions, glabrous, with small protrusions along the veins; petioles 1-2 cm long, with small protrusions; ocrea membranous, oblique, 3-5 mm long, brown, with longitudinal veins, glabrous, apex truncate, missed hairs often rupture, early fall.
