Radial Shock Wave Therapy

The RSWT® module is a compressed air operated, ballistic shock wave generator. A projectile is 

accelerated by compressed air. The kinetic energy stored in the motion and weight of the projectile

is converted into acoustic energy in the form of long-wave pressure pulses when the projectile 

strikes a transmitter. These acoustic pulses are transmitted to the target tissue by means of coupling

gel.

Transmitters: 3 Sizes of Tips for Different Areas

The RSWT handpiece uses acoustic waves to penetrate deep layers of the epidermis, dermis and 

subcutaneous tissue. 

Specific transmitters reach different parts of this structure:

RSWT 15: Ø 15 mm, high-efficiency transmitter: for treatment of epidermis, dermis, connective 

tissue and cellulite treatment. 

RSWT 20: Ø 20 mm, radial pressure waves and vibration pulses: for the treatment of trigger points,

muscle activation, blood and lymph circulation, for relaxing tissue.

RSWT 35: Ø 35 mm, radial pressure waves and vibration pulses: muscle and connective tissue 

activation, large back muscles, skin tightening, muscle smoothing, myofascial trigger point therapy, 

repair of fibrotic changes.

Application Energy

Generally speaking, one has to bear in mind that shock wave therapy is experienced differently from 

patient to patient. Some people find it rather pleasant, whereas others may feel slight pain.

RSWT application energy has Fine-Tune Output (0.1 Bar), which makes the therapy as pleasant as 

possible for patients:

1. Begin with an initial energy level of approx. 1.5 – 2 bar. Energies up to 3 bar will generally be sufficient.

2. When the patient reports abatement of pain, you can gradually increase the energy level with the arrows.

3. Select the application energy according to the patient’s sensitivity to pain (bio-feedback).

During the entire duration of the therapy session, a constant dialogue with the patient is required to ensure

precise application energy.

Treatment is not permitted in the following cases:

1. Coagulation disorders (haemophilia)

2. Use of anticoagulants, especially Marcumar

3.Thrombosis

4. Tumour diseases, carcinoma patients

5. Pregnancy

6. Children in growth (growth plates)

7. Cortisone therapy up to 6 weeks before first shock wave treatment

Generally speaking, sound waves must not be applied to target areas located above air filled tissue (lungs),

large nerves, vessels, the spinal column or head.

Treatment may cause the following side effects:

1. Swelling, reddening, haematomas

2. Petechiae

3. Pain

4. Skin lesions after previous cortisone therapy

These side effects should be avoided by using low energy levels and continuous movement with middle

pressure of the handpiece on the skin. Bear in mind that a low shock wave dose has a beneficial effect

on biological systems, whereas a high dose may cause damage.

Side effects generally abate after 2 to 5 days. Make sure that the above side effects have disappeared

before starting the next therapy session.

Before and After Treatment

Coupling(PPC Cream)

Treatment efficacy is conditional upon good coupling! Always apply a sufficient amount of gel to ensure

optimal shock transmission into the tissue. Make sure that the entire surface of the transmitter is in contact

with the patient’s skin. 

Hold the handpiece in such a way that it is positioned at right angles to the skin surface.
