1.It is the responsibility of the user to thoroughly inspect the ladder lrior to use,Items to be inspected include the safety shoes, rails,connections,and hardware.Loose connections,sharp edges,burrs or worn parts shall be noted.If defects are found,the ladder will be tagged: DO NOT USE and taken out of service.The user who fids the defective ladder os responsible for tagging it"DANGER-DO NOT USE"and arranging for its removal from site.Use the attached ladder inspection guidelines for reference.

 2.Straight ladders will be placed on the ground or other support so that the distance from the base of the ladder to a line dropped vertically from the top support is approximately one-fourth(1/4) the length of the ladder.

EXAMPLE:A sixteen-foot(16') ladder will be placed so that the bottom is four feet (4') away from the wall.

3.Ladder will not be placed in front of doors,unless the door is locked or guarded.

4.All straight ladder will be equipped with safety shoes in good condition.

5.Employees will face the ladder while ascending or descending

6.Select straight ladder that are of sufficient length so that work can be performed while standing on or below the fourth rung fron the top.

7.Select stepladders that are of suffcient length so that work can be performed while standing on or below the first run from the  top or as directed per ladder  labeling.

Employees using straight ladder will secure the top portion of the ladder before starting the job.Another employee will hold the bottom of the ladder while the top is being tied off where practical or as dictated by the type of work being performed.

9.Non-conductive ladder are required for all work where contact with electrical current is possible.

10.Employees will have their hands free of material while climbing ladder.

11.When jobs requiring ladder  are completed or at the end of the work period,the user will remove the ladder from the work area or aisle to avoid creating tripping or bumping hazards and return the ladder to the proper storage area.

12.Only one person is to ascend or descend a ladder at a time.Ladder are not designed to support more more than one person.

13.Use a fall arrestor device when working from a ladder

14.Keep 2 hands and 1 foot or 2 feet and 1 hand in contact with the ladder while ascending or descending.

15.If a ladder is found to be defective,it must be taken out of service and discarded tagged with a Danger-Do Not Use' tag until repairs can be made.This includes ladder with any items listed below.
