Surface Preparation offers a wide variety of wheel blast equipment in several configurations. Wheel blasting is a great process for descaling and cleaning wire rod and pipe. This process is an environmentally preferred method in comparison to acid pickling.
There are three main configurations of units intended for blasting wire, rod and pipe:
Wire rod pass through units – Wire rod is cleaned or descaled as it passes through a blast cabinet. Several blast wheels provide complete coverage as the material moves through the blast cabinet. Wire rod or bar stock as small as ?" in diameter and up to 4" can be processed in this series of machines. This unit is also capable of cleaning squares, flats and other shapes.
Skew roll units – This unit is typically used to clean the exterior surface of cylindrical objects such as pipe, large bar and even some tanks. Rollers are positioned throughout the blast cabinet and provide forward movement as well as rotation on the product to be blasted. Several blast wheels are mounted throughout the cabinet to insure proper blast cleaning coverage. The roller speed can be adjusted to your specific cleaning requirements.
Coil wire units – Coils are loaded onto mandrel mounted on the door of the unit. During the wheel blast process the mandrel turns which exposes various sections of the coil for better exposure to the blast stream.
Cycle times will vary significantly depending on the condition of the products prior to processing as well as the finish requirements.
coils upto 650kg to 2000kgs, are loaded on mandrils, it is a shot blasted in 8min.depending in wire diameter ( generally speaking it is 5.5-6.5mm)
a previously pickling took more than 2hours for the same operation. shot blasting increases productivity, operation is simple requires minimum labour and space, reduces pickling cost ,acid desposal waste, corrosion problem.
mechanical shot basted has many advantages over pickling,the whole operation is inexpensive.

Main Effect
1. Remove rust and oxide layer on the outer surface of the wire.
