Description of calcined bauxite                                  

Calcined Bauxite is produced from non metallurgical Bauxite grades with a high diasporic content through sintering in rotary kilns at 1650-1700C. Al2O3 contents range from 82 %, 86 % to 88 %. Densities range from 2,84 g/cm, 3,22 g/cm to 3,33 g/cm. There are three kinds of kilns for calcination process: rotary kiln, shaft kiln and round kiln. Comparing with other two kinds, rotary kiln bauxite is calcined more evenly, benefits from the continuous rotary movement of the kiln body.Bauxite 82DS, 86DS & 88DSare mined and calcinated in the Province of Shanxi in China.

Most important characteristics are high thermal stability, high mechanical strength and good resistance to molten slags. Calcined Bauxite is typically applied in working lining refractories for blast furnaces, runners and torpedo ladles, moreover in nose rings, kiln hoods and tertiary air duct refractories for the cement industry. Non-refractory applications are slag forming agents in secondary metallurgy, concretes for vault production and high friction surface aggregate for road construction and industrial floors. 

Besides the above mentioned products we can offer a broad range of calcined Bauxites on our customers` request, e.g. calcined in rotary, round or shaft kiln, with alumina contents of 80-90%, silica 5-14%, Fe2O3 typically below 2% and titania contents that are usually not higher than 4%. Bauxite 82DS, 86DS & 88DS are supplied in standard fractions of 0-1, 1-3, 3-6, 6-10mm, 0-90m and 0-150m, packed in 1,2 ton big bags or 25kg paper bags on pallets or bulk in silo-trucks. Other fractions are available on request.

Applications of Calcined Bauxite                              

Refractory Grade Calcined Bauxite (CB - I and CB - II Grade) : To make refractory grade, Bauxite is thermally treated at 1600 oC to produce Calcined Bauxite where the Alumina content is mostly above 82%.

Brown Fused Alumina, Proppants and Road Surfacing : To make the above grades, Bauxite is thermally treated at 1000 oC – 1200 oC to produce Calcined Bauxite where the Alumina content is anywhere between 80-88% depending on the requirement.
