What is the oil refinery

The oil refinery is used for removing the impurities of oil, such as, fatty acid, phosphatide, metal ion, pigment, oxide, solid particle and volatile gas. It suitable for refining various crude oil, vegetable oil, such as sunflower seed oil, tea seed oil, groundnut oil, cottonseed oil, rice bran oil, soybean oil, corn oil and palm oil,etc.

Main section of oil refinery 

Neutralizer section :

The crude oil is pumped to Neutralizer from oil mill or storage tank & first it is treated with weak solution of phosphoric acid or other suitable degumming agent for removing gums. Neutralizer is used remove the Free Fatty Acids (FFA) by adding caustic soda.

The chemical reaction between free fatty acid and caustic soda forms the soap stock. This soap stock is allowed to settle down in the neutralizer from where it is collected into the soap pans. The oil is then washed with hot water to remove traces of soap particles and free alkali.

Bleaching section

  The oil bleaching is also named decolorization in oil refinery processes. This process’s main purpose is to remove the product of oxidation, pigments, phospholipids, soap materials from the oil. In the oil refinery plant, this process can improve the oil color as well as supplies high quality oil for the deodorization process

Deodorization

The deodorization process removes odor from the oil to improve the quality and self-life of the oil. The clean bleached oil is heated in the deodorizer to remove all the odiferous material such as phenols, ketones, tocopherols, aldehydes etc.

Dewaxing section:

Dewaxing process is carried out for Sunflower and Rice Bran Oil as they contain waxes compared to other oil. This wax is removed by the dewaxing process. The oils are subjected to winterization process. The oil is first processed in the crystallizer where it is cooled by chilled water circulation. Low temperature results in the formation of crystals which are removed in the filtration process.

Some Edible Oil Refining Equipment Instruction

1. Decoloring tank: bleach pigments from oil.

2. Deodorizing tank: remove the un-favored smell from decolorized oil.

3. Oil furnace: provide enough heat for the refining sections which need high temperature of 280℃.                                

4. Vacuum pump: provide high pressure for bleaching, deodorization which can reach 755mmHg or more.

5. Air compressor: dry the bleached clay after bleaching.

6. Filter press: filter the clay into the bleached oil.

7. Steam generator: generate steam distillation
