Tri color display is also called double color display, the former name is generally used by European & American, and the latter one is more called by Chinese.

It means it has only two different colors lamp in one pixel/dot rather than all the red, green and blue in full color display, such as 1R1G,1R1B,2R1G,2R1B(the green and blue combination is seldom used) and the two colors can be mixtured out the third color, so it is also called tri-color even though it has only two colors of lamps, that is red and green can be yellow ,and red together with blue will be purple.

Double color screen is usually used to show simple message and word information or some simple pictures, like the notice board in traffic system(bus station, airport, high way, cross street indicator light),bank, supermarket, government organization etc.

It don't need to have high definition or fresh frequency as it's showing content is usually simple, so it usually has big pixel pitch. It can be installed outdoor or indoor and it's usually hanging over the air to better indicate or notice the audience with its message.
