In terms of ac induction method,the basic structure of an electromagnetic stirrer is actually a can stimulate the magnetic field sensor, it is similar to electrical machine’s stator, the molten metal is equal to the rotor. The magnetic field creative by inductor act on the molten metal inside the crystallizer, and have relative movement with the molten metal, the molten metal is electric conductor, so, it will produce induced current in it, the current interact with the magnetic field produce by inductor to produce electromagnetic force, which drive metal fluid movement. The way of movement is determined by the magnetic field, at present, the widespread application of magnetic field are rotating magnetic field and traveling wave magnetic field.
Electromagnetic stirring has the following characteristics:
(1)the electromagnetic stirring and liquid with no physical contact, do not pollute the liquid aluminum, it has great significance in melting high purity aluminum and alloy research.
(2) it can effectively solve the problem of uniformity of alloy composition, in some cases it can reach the effect which artificial mixing could not.
(3) Does not destroy oxide layer mixing, thus can reduce the oxidation slag, to reduce the burning loss rate.
(4)Stirring direction and stirring intensity can be adjusted.
(5) A one-time investment, the cost is low, save energy, enhance productivity.
(6)Simple and convenient for operation and maintenance.
Compared with other mixing way, electromagnetic stirring compatible with the other mixing way’ advantages, and has its own unique characteristic, therefore, electromagnetic stirring has become the common use stirring method.
