1. Overview

Concentrator is a device executing automatically or on request the functions of meter reading

and parameterization and data transfer functions to AMR Centre.

Concentrator executes operations defined in programs/sequences submitted to it remotely

(from AMR Centre) or locally (via laptop) independently from AMR Centre and to memorize read

data obtained through execution of defined programs/sequences for a specified time period.

The concentrator follows priorities of programs/sequences during execution of such

programs/sequences. At the request of AMR Centre or under reporting program/sequence, the

concentrator submits memorized data to AMR Centre or delivers the data tolaptop on request.

Concentrator enables immediate communication with individual meters, remotely (from

AMR Centre) or locally (via laptop).

Concentrator has communication ports for communication with meters and AMR Centre, as

well as communication port for local communication.

2 Quality Commitment

All acquisition terminals manufactured have been strictly inspected and tested before delivery.

If quality problems arise within one year, we are responsible for the warranty for free or will supply

lifetime maintenance according to the requirements of contracts.

Cautions: concerning damage due to the responsibility of customers or caused by inevitable

elements, there will be charges of production cost on the basis of responsibility for customers.

3 Cautions

a. Pay attention to electrical level of respective interface for fear of improper connection,

which might cause damage to the concentrator;

b. The sectional area of wire shall cater to the requirement of load current, or damage might

be caused from overheating.

c. The concentrator shall be installed indoors in the dry and well-ventilated place. The cabinet

in which concentrator is installed shall be stable.

d. Watch whether LCD display of concentrator is normal and judge whether concentrator

performs normally, perform troubleshooting and repair in time.

e. The concentrator shall be reliably grounded and the grounding resistance shall be less than

4Ω.

f. All incoming and outgoing cables of concentrator shall be supplied with external lighting

protection measure.

g. The power supply shall be cut off during wiring for the sake of personnel security.

 Note:

Ø It is suggested that meters with the same communication protocol be connected to each

RS485 bus, in order to improve efficiency of meter reading, meters connected to each

bus should be as few as possible;

Ø Up to 31 electric energy meters can be connected to each RS485 interface;

Ø Corresponding settings shall be made in concentrator in case meters connected to each

RS485 interface communicate in different protocols;

Ø RS485-A and RS485-B of RS485 interface shall not be connected inversely;

Ø Y connection or cellular connection should be avoided;

Ø Category III or category V twisted-pair cable shall be adopted for network connection

and RS-485 connection. Twisted-pair cable with shielding layer is preferable. It shall be

avoided to parallel several twisted-pair cables together, which shall be to the

disadvantage of suppression of common mode interference during transmission of

communication signal.

6.4.3 Uplink Connection

a. RS232 Interface

Connect the RS232 signal of other devices (e.g. optical transmitter and receiver or server at

local master station) directly to connector of RS232 port of concentrator via RS232 serial cable and

fasten the screws, where the transmission signal is connected to “RXD” of RS232 module,

reception signal is connected to “TXD” of RS232 module and grounding signal is connected to

“GND” of RS232 module.

b. Power line MODEM Interface

The concentrator is designed with four-wire private line interface, where “Rx+” and “Rx-” are

reception ports connecting with transmission port of the opposite device and “Tx+” and “Tx-” are

transmission ports connecting with reception port of the opposite device. If the customer has

ordered protection board for power line communication channel, it is feasible to connect incoming

wire of power line to input of the protection board and connect DLM connector of the

concentrator to output of the protection board.

c. FIBER Interface

The concentrator is designed with ST optical fiber interface. Users are required to connect

optical fiber of external device to optical fiber interface of FIBER module, where TX refers to

transmission port of optical fiber interface connecting with RX reception port of the device and RX

refers to reception port of optical fiber interface connecting with TX transmission port of the

Users shall connect network cable provided by switch to network connector of the

concentrator. If the user has ordered protection board for Ethernet, it is feasible to connect

incoming line of network cable to input of the protection board and connect the network

connector of the concentrator to output of the protection board.

e. MODEM interface

If dial-up mode is provided by public telephone network, connect telephone cable to “TIP”

and “RING” of MODEM module.

If four-wire private line mode is provided by public telephone network, connect one pair of

reception wire of the private line to “RING” and “RX” of MODEM module and the other pair of

reception wire to “TIP” and “TX” of MODEM module.

If the user has ordered protection board for telephone, it is feasible to connect incoming line

of telephone cable to input of the protection board and connect the MODEM connector of the

concentrator to output of the protection board.

f. GPS signal

 A and B of GPS module are connected to A and B of GPS satellite clock.

6.5 Module Description

a. RS-485 module

Each RS-485 module is designed with 4 indicators including “COM1”, “COM2”, “COM3” and

“COM4” whose color switches from green to orange during operation of the concentrator, where

green indicates transmission and orange indicates reception.

b. CS module

CS module is optional based on customer

requirement

to

provide 4 CS interfaces for current loop, where there are 4 indicators indicating operation status of

the communication port, green indicates transmission and orange indicates reception.

c. PULSE module

Pulse module is optional based on customer requirement to provide 12 interfaces for pulse

input.

e. Ethernet module

The concentrator is equipped with a 10/100M Ethernet module with a RJ45 plug and 3

operation indicators based on customer requirement. When “100M” twinkles in green, this

indicates 100M network is connected. When “LINK” twinkles in orange, this indicates connection is

OK. When “FULL” twinkles in green, this indicates the concentrator is under full duplex operation

mode.

f. MODEM module

The MODEM module is designed with 4 indicators, where “OH/RI” indicates off-hook when

the indicator twinkles in green and indicates ring when the indicator twinkles in orange, “TX/RX”

indicates data transmission when the indicator twinkles in green and indicates data reception

when the indicator twinkles in orange. “AA” indicates automatic response when the indicator

twinkles in green. “CD” is indicator for carrier detection and indicates successful communication

with MDM when the indicator twinkles in green.

g. DLM power line carrier module

The module is designed with 3 operation indicators, where “DCD” is indicator for carrier

detection and indicates there is carrier signal when the indicator twinkles in green. “TXD” indicates

data transmission when the indicator twinkles in green and “TXD” indicates data reception when

the indicator twinkles in orange.

 h. RS232 module

The module is designed with 1 RS232 interface and 4 double-color operation indicators.

“CD/RI” indicates carrier signal is detected when the indicator twinkles in green and indicates ring

signal is detected when the indicator twinkles in orange. “TX/RX” indicates data transmission

when the indicator twinkles in green and indicates data reception when the indicator twinkles in

orange. “RT/CT” is indicator for preparing/canceling transmission, green for preparing transmission

and orange for canceling transmission. “DT/DS” is indicator for status of the concentrator/MODEM,

green for concentrator ready and orange for MODEM ready.

 i. GPRS/CDMA module

The module is designed with one socket for SIM card and 4 operation indicators. “ON” is

indicator for power supply and indicates power supply of GPRS/CDMA module has been switched

on when the indicator twinkles in green. “SYNC” is indicator for network synchronization and

indicates network synchronization with GPRS/CDMA when the indicator twinkles in orange. “TXD”

indicates data transmission when it twinkles in green and “RXD” indicates data reception when it

twinkles in orange.

j. FIBER network optical fiber module

The module is designed with 2 optical fiber interfaces and 3 operation indicators.

“SPEED” is indicator for 100M network and indicates 100M network is connected when it

twinkles in green. ”L/A” is indicator for connection and indicates normal connection when it

twinkles in orange. “FULL” is full duplex indicator and indicates the full duplex mode when it

twinkles in green.
