Japanese Catnip (scientific name, Actinidia Polygama) is of the same family with Kiwi Fruit! It gives a state of euphoria response in cats, like Nepeta Cataria (Catnip). Said to give a more intense reaction. Japanese Catnip / Matatabi / Slivervine is non-toxic, found mainly in Japan, Korea and China. It is also used in Traditional Chinese Medicines (for humans, of course)

Their leaves, fruits and branches are known to be particularly potent in making cats happy!

What is silvervine for cats?

Silvervine (also known as Japanese Catnip / Matatabi) is a non-toxic plant in the Actinidiaceae family. It grows in the mountainous areas of Japan and China at elevations between 500-1900 meters.

It is known to give cats that euphoric response that catnip, honeysuckle, and valerian does for cats as well. BUT the reaction tends to be more intense. Typical behaviors include rolling, rubbing, drooling, and licking. The effect usually lasts for 5 to 30 minutes and cats will usually visit it again after about 20 to 30 minutes.

Is this right for my cat?
