Stamping should avoid any deformation of parts of formation of burrs at the edges of the cut. Anything adding rigidity in the direction of deflection reduces thermal deflection. A strip width of more than 20% of strip length may cause rigidity because of the cross curvature during subsequent heating.To minimize deformation and burr,sufficiently precise stamping tools must be used. A shearing strength of 600N/mm can be used in determining the necessary cutting pressure for bimetals.The cut should start at the side with the harder component. No further precautions are necessary. The
processing instructions for structural steels and stainless steels are valid for most types of bimetals as well . However, for
bimetals, as opposed to single metals , an influence of cutting tool temperature on the shape of parts is to be expected.
It is recommended to cut the bimetal parts longitudinally from the strip . However , for economical reasons, stamping across the rolling direction is common protice . Such parts will have a 1 to 2% smaller deflection and only about 90% of the admissible bending stress.
