 1. Overview of Prestressed Concrete Piles

PHC pile and PC pile are used for the low bearing platform of pile foundation of the non-seismic design and the industrial and civil buildings, structures’ intensity of the seismic design higher or equal to 8. Railways, roads and Bridges, ports, water conservancy, municipal, etc with low bearing platform pile foundation seen for reference to use.,

2. Classification of piles

(1) According to the effective pre-stressed compressive stress of concrete pile body, there are type A, AB, B and C piles.

(2) According to strength grade of concrete, there are PC and PHC piles.

(3) According to the out diameter, there are 300mm, 400mm, 500mm, 600mm, 700mm, 800mm, 1000mm, 1200mm piles.

3. How to select the type of concrete piles

(1)The selection of pile should be conforming to engineering geological conditions, construction of regional seismic fortification intensity and the characteristics of the upper structure, load size and nature of pile driving equipment, construction conditions, etc. Discuss with manufacturers about comprehensive analysis of the construction and choose corresponding types of piles.

For pile under high horizontal load, seismic fortification district is located in the liquefied soil within the scope of the pipe pile, designers should adjust the diameter of the pile’s stirrup, pitch and the diameter of hoop reinforcement area. And customize the piles which can satisfy the seismic construction measures and the actual engineering needs

(2)The pile foundation engineering which is used for the seismic fortification intensity of 7, 8 should choose type AB. B and C piles. And the mechanical indexes of the selected piles type should meet the design requirements and relevant norms.

(3)If the pile foundation engineering has the complex engineering geological conditions, and the pile foundation design level is class A, we need to choose the type AB, B, C piles.

(4)When underground water or subsoil can corrode concrete, steel bar and steel parts, we’d better to use the type AB, B, C piles. At the same time, we should according to the relevant standard and norms take effective anti-corrosion measures. Do not choose piles with outer diameter of 300mm .

(5)Pre-tension piles or horizontal load of the main pipe pile foundation engineering need to choose the type AB, B, C piles. And the mechanical indexes of the selected pile type should meet the design requirements and the relevant norms. Do not choose the 300mm outer diameter piles
