Silicon carbide can withstand the highest temperatures in typical foundry work. It is the strongest material at high temperatures. It has the added advantage of being a very durable material and is less effected by the action of fluxes.

The crucibles made from silicon carbide are high quality crucibles. They can be used at temperatures up to 1600C (3000^oF) suitable for melting and refining precious metals, base metals and other products. For  example, they will handle zinc, aluminum, brass/bronze, silver and gold alloys.
