One of the most distinctive features of furniture designed by Eero Aarnio is that it takes a unique, irregular concept that transforms it into a functional piece of furniture that often surpasses the original idea. The Scoop Loveseat is a perfect example of this method in action, creating a wholly new piece based on the iconic half-sphere design that became so popular with Aarnio's Ball Chair.
The Scoop Loveseat is a half-sphere with the top sliced off at an angle, creating a shallow “scoop” on the inside in which to sit. Rather than relying on a separate base platform, Eero Aarnio made the decision to slice another cross-section from the bottom of the sphere, allowing it to rest securely using nothing more than its own geometry.
With durability in mind, the outer shell is constructed from high quality resin fibreglass, and the interior is upholstered in vintage Italian leather for a formal appeal that rests easily in either a business or casual environment.
