1.  Choose a grater that fit your particular needs. Hand-held graters don't take up much space in the drawer, but if you plan to grate large amounts of cheese, invest in a larger, professional quality grater. A multi-sided grater is versatile and will allow you to grate cheese very finely or to slice it for sandwiches or snacks.
